FNPH provides guidance, coordination, and technical assistance throughout the process, from application through construction, while working in partnership with USDA Rural Development financing programs.
Program Structure
-
Participants are organized into small groups (typically 6–10 families)
-
Each household contributes labor toward building all homes in the group
-
Construction is supervised by experienced staff and contractors
-
Homes are built over a structured timeline, generally 8–12 months
-
Families must commit to regular work schedules, often evenings and weekends
-
No down payment is typically required; equity is earned through participation
This model builds not only homes, but also skills, stability, and community connections.
Eligibility
While final eligibility is determined by USDA Rural Development, general program guidelines include:
-
Household income within low- to very low-income limits
-
Ability to qualify for a USDA Section 502 Direct Loan
-
Willingness and ability to contribute required labor hours
-
Commitment to working collaboratively with other families
-
Need for safe, decent, and affordable housing
-
Property must be located in an eligible rural area
FNPH works closely with interested applicants to determine eligibility and guide them through the process.
